This term ‘Jesus Saves, I Spend’ has been around for quite some time. But seeing this
on a t-shirt in a major store in a mall is problematic. It seems this is becoming the only
acceptable way to proclaim Jesus in a public setting, when one mocks and cheapens Christianity.
I’m sure many professing Christians will not even blink an eye when they see this t-shirt. Apathy,
fear and lack of discernment is way too common among Christians. The ‘World’ should not
be able to get away with junk like this, but it does.
Why? Again - Apathy, fear & lack of discernment.
I don’t place all the blame on Urban Outfitters or other companies who employ such
cheap marketing ploys. Money is their main motivator, and if a company has a political agenda,
well that’s just a bonus. It’s up to individuals who care enough to take a stand.
Would Urban Outfitters dare mock Islam? No, and that’s because of fear on their part. Most
people and companies are fearful of offending Muslims, but not Christians. They take their
cues from the media and government. It has become acceptable to trash Christians and
fashionable to cater to Muslims.
Unless good Christians wake up and lose their fear, stop being apathetic, and pray for
discernment, these attacks will continue to get worse.
I will be calling Urban Outfitters corporate office on Monday. If you feel inclined, here
